Vibration Exhibits case study 3
Explore At-Bristol
In the installation "Explore at-Bristol" science museum, visitors can experience the physical vibrations of music, by standing or sitting on the Soundfloor.
This was a bespoke designed Soundfloor created specially for At-Bristol. The visitor can select a number of musical pieces.
The exhibit shows how some music is felt as low frequency vibration.
Exploratorium, Portugal
The Vibration exhibit at the "Infante D. Henrique Exploratorium" science museum in Coimbra, Portugal uses Desktop Soundbeam plus a Mini Soundbox. The visitors movements are detected by Soundbeam, depending on the distance the visitor is in relation to the sensor. This in turn triggers a series of animal sounds covering various audible and inaudible audio frequencies.
At the same time video clips of Sonograms of each animal sound are displayed on a monitor. The low frequency element of the animal sounds can also be felt via the Mini Soundbox.
The purpose of the exhibit is to explain how low frequency sounds (that cannot be heard but are felt) are used by some animals to communicate with each other.
