Soundbeam Exhibits: case study 1
"Experiment" Manchester Museum of Science and industry
This exhibit uses four ultrasonic sensors to detect visitors movements as they pass under the suspended ceiling. Each beam triggers a four-strand musical experience. The exhibit shows how ultrasonic sound waves can detect movement, in a fun and exciting way. To add variation to the musical element of the exhibit, 30 preset musical sound-worlds can be selected by the staff.
Artworks
At the Lowry, Salford, users can listen to each other's musical output to improvise duets together. In another section, three ultrasonic beams detect visitors movements to produce a three-strand musical output.
